Almost the same view, but about 26 years apart.

Taking something old and making it new again.
I have a good friend who often comes out to help at the cabin.
He is an artist, photographer and someone who is always interested in how something works.
Once while visiting he became very intrigued with this original door latch on the Pitts blacksmith building.
At the time he was remodeling his basement using lots of old lumber and even some log building techniques in the build (even chinking between some lumber to add the log cabin look),
He rebuilt a modern version of the old latch which he now uses in the basement bathroom.
Old lumber attached a little differently but works exactly the same.
See what you can do with a little imagination.

Good use for some old lumber.
Was asked to help make a rustic cooler stand for a Boy Scout Raffle.
Got some 150 plus year old log cabin wood and put it to good use.
Even used some old tin roofing.

A few from our Mid-West snow storm. Snowbound for the weekend. . . on purpose.
While I thought I would post more here once I retired, the opposite has proven true.
Here are a few from our weekend snow storm.
Birds-eye view here from the treehouse.
Our covered drive.
We ended up with about 14-16 inches of snow from Friday night to Sunday.
First time with Christmas lights and snow.
Dusk
Early morning.

A couple of drawings of a 'once upon a time' plan.
A number of years ago I started working on plans to move into the cabin as a permanent home.
The main log section is on a dry laid stone foundation so was not suitable for plumbing.
So I had to plan an addition that would contain the water works for a kitchen and bathroom, with heat and AC.
This is a sketch I did that I ended up really liking.

While no longer needed I think it is still a very doable plan.
Well, maybe some day.

Girl Scouts restoring Old lodge.
I have not seen this place yet, but my wife has.
An old lodge called Trefoil Lodge at one of the Girl Scout Camps they us a lot.
I will be neat to see how it ends up.
